Ripped off

They wasted 17,000 of my money for a procedure they never should have done. My face will never be the same.

They pick on average people and make promises, then tell you they need more time and money. After the first procedure, I could not eat for a year. I lost 50 pounds -- a good thing, but when they put me under a second time, they used the same amount of drugs. I woke up face down on my hotel room bed in a pool of blood.

I was there by myself -- God knows what could have happened. Since you can't sue, there's nothing to be done, but I want them to know.

Was a patient there this month

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

Horrible!! They have really gone downhill.

The dentist there basically tortured me this month. I had several crowns put in, and the dentist started cutting off my gums, without consulting me! And, with very little pain killlers,

I was in agony. Then, he dug in his icepick type tool into the recently cut up gums.

And, then shoved a $300 bill at me, and I never agreed to the horrible gum cutting, all over my mouth.

I was basically crying hysterically in the hall. My face started twitching all over, from the extreme pain. I mentioned the pain, and he shot up one small area of my mouth, and continued digging into the gums on the other side.

I was jumping and wincing all over the place. It was awful, and he didn't even offer me ibruprophen.

I had to drive to Puerto Aventuras that night, and nearly got into an accident, I was so upset, and in awful pain.

We talked to the office manager the next day, and the snot nosed millenial, (I am in my sixties), told me condascendingly, "well, you know that dental work is "not fun", and often painful". Like it was MY FAULT! He's lecturing me about pain,

I have a broken back, that required four very painful back fusions. Along with 3 difficult c-sections, with complications.

I have had VERY painful things happen to me, and I know there is something called "pain control".

Unbelievable! And, they kept changing our appointments, and there was general confusion there. Not a good environment.

The dentist refused to apologize to me. Figures.wwasas

Poor quality work & dangerous sanitation

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I had a full mouth restoration, costing approximately $23,000. The bottom teeth all had crowns put on them.

The top teeth had 3 implants and 2 bridges. I also had 4 of the most painful root canals I have ever gotten. After spending all that time and money to get a nice smile, all the crowns on the bottom need to be replaced. Many of them don't even look like real teeth, but simply globs of white product.

Non of the crowns go below the gum line, exposing my real teeth. All of my real teeth are now sensitive to both cold and hot (even the teeth that supposedly had root canals). The top teeth are chipping, the implant holes where the screws were placed had all the filling fall out, the left teeth are larger than the ones on the right, the front bridge is too large for the space, resulting in being put in crooked and exposing large holes in both the front and backs of the teeth, and one of the implants is totally exposed!! My teeth will have to be completely redone by a reputable dentist here in the US!

On top of all of the above, during my last trip to Cancun Dental Specialist in September 2021, I was sedated numerous times during my treatment.

The facility uses what they call "traveling anesthesiologists". When I returned home to the US, I started having a lot of pain and infection. Cancun Dental Specialist had supplied me with a large bottle of Amoxicillin in case I needed it. I used it often.

By early October 2021, I was getting sicker and sicker. I went to my doctor and was diagnosed with Hepatitis C! The Center for Disease Control (CDC) in both the US and Mexico were notified by my doctors of the Hep C. The Hep C was contracted at Cancun Dental Specialist!!!

When I contacted them and notified them of the situation, they showed no concern that I was so sick due to the lack of sanitation at their facility! They ultimately refunded me $4,300 for my lodging and airfare for 2 trips, but have refused to refund my dental fees or my pain and suffering of Hep C, that Cancun Dental Specialist caused!!! I am currently treating for Hep C, but do not know the extent of damage to my organs!!

A word to all potential patients!

If it seems "too good to be true", go with your gut instinct, it will cost you dearly. Do not have dental work done at this facility!

DO NOT allow them to work on your teeth! Ruined my teeth! All work FAILED!

Dr. Irma Galvaldon and team ruined my teeth and I have been in constant pain since I allowed them to work on my teeth.

All three crowns failed and they broke my tooth and did not inform me and continued with crown placement. The crowns hurt, ill fitting and are barbaric in appearance (shape, thickness, color, etc.) The process was also barbaric with full 9-12 hours a day in the dental chair. I regret every allowing Dr. Irma Galvaldon to work on my teeth.

I guess you get what you pay for. I am still suffering. The "free" whitening they gave me to "make up" for some of the issues and caused so much erosive damage and I have intense pain every single day - since 2014. Run, run away this clinic.

Dr. Irma is also extremely rude and does not use care when working on sensitive teeth. My mouth was so cut up. I could go on...

no need. Just don't allow them to work on your teeth...if you survive you will live to regret every moment and all work will fail.

My experience with Ocean Dental Cancun (ODC) was extremely positive. I am a retired police officer from NY and after several consultations is was apparent that I needed a full mouth reconstruction.

Frankly, I was getting estimates in the 50k range. I was completely demoralized. One dentist even suggested that I not even bother and to get my teeth pulled and just get dentures. From the advice from a friend I looked into ODC and I am glad I did. Upon arrival I was given a full evaluation and was given my options.

No pressure, no stress. The amount of work that I had done was significant. 25 crowns, 7 root canals, 3 extractions and extensive periodontal work. The doctors were very professional.

The facilities were very clean and the equipment was very modern. Even surpassing my NY dentist office by far. The main doctor that did my work was Dr. Cindell. She was outstanding and her attention to detail was amazing. Her assistant, Selena was terrific and very professional. At the end of the day I paid 14 k which is almost a quarter of the price I would of paid in NY.

I will most certainly recommend Ocean Dental Cancun to my family and friends. I gain nothing from this endorsement. I am just very grateful and satisfied for being introduced to ODC.

There is no such thing as a dental vacation, it’s costing me over 2K above what my dentist at home was going to charge, I have all the physical estimates and final charge.

I just returned fro Cancun where Ocean Dental did some extensive work in a few days. Tha first fitting 6 tooth bridge, my jaw was swollen and in severe pain, no pain meds there.

I sucked it up and returned the next day for a sapphire bridge completion, when she said tap, to fit the bridge cracked in bridge cracked in two. I returned the next day and it took some time and when they told the Dr. her next patient had arrived, despite I told her it didn’t feel right, she said with the swelling will set in place. The bridge felt slightly high, my jaw was saw and I was trying not to use that side, the day before my birthday I was eating a piece of my birthday cake and the bridge cracked again, now I’m in more pain.

Yes they warranty their work BUT I have to pay for the fare and hotel once again, I’m not satisfied at this point and it’s already cost me more than what my insurance dentist was going to charge me. Going to have dental work in a third world country, you are at a disadvantage so beware. I just retired to take care of my husband who passed from a long fight with cancer. If anyone has any questions, feel free to call 727-365-****.

At this point I’m more than unhappy with the quality and commitment they profess on line, I’ll keep you posted on the validity of this clinic. Verified customer.

This is NOT a dental vacation

They do walk around with the gloves in their hands, I had to ask she put on new gloves in front of me. I had a very negative experience, my bridge cracked twice, once on first day, and again a week after I got back to USA.

Do your research, I’m sure they will be taking this post off, save yourself the pain, suffering, money, and aggravation. The dentist is only as good as the lab, which is on site, I would not recommend this place.

This is a warning for people who are contemplating dental work at Cancun Dental Specialist / Ocean Dental. While we see many happy faces in CDS testimonies, there are, I am sure many that are not so happy!

If you look past the eagerness of CDS to gain your business, you will find a totally unprofessional staff...A staff without proper training in the dental field and a staff that most likely have no credentials.

Please note that only three on staff at CDS have any sort of a licence!!

Those with credentials/licenses include: Dr. Irma Gavaldon (whom I only saw once out of many visits), Dr. Guillermo Gomez ( I saw once at Ocean Dental who examined work by DR. Calvillo and did not agree with any of the work Calvillo had previously performed!) and ... WAIT he is an Endodontist! Oh, and there is Dr. Oscar Calvillo D.D.S. M.S. who I also met , he is the one who mapped out placement of implants, WAIT he is a Periodontist !

QUESTION!! Where is the Oral Surgeon?????????

Without a doubt, the Cancun Dental/Ocean Dental staff are neither qualified nor trained professionally in the field of dental implants. Furthermore, there is a huge difference in Mexican and American standards in reference to a STERILE environment...which is a major factor when implants are placed.

I’m having very similar problems, what am I suppose to do with a 6 tooth bridge that has cracked twice, I paid with American Express who will return my money until this is resolved. I just retired and my husband recently passed from a long fight with cancer and I lost my dental benefits when he died.

They tell you not to worry but don’t be fooled, this is no vacation, more like a nightmare and once they have you in the chair-BEWARE. I spent the seven days in my room, in severe pain, no meds, or proper follow up. Save yourself and get a good plan in the US because I ended up paying $3000 more than what it was going to cost me at home, you are dealing with dishonest second grade so called professionals. I wish I had done more of my research and not get suckered in by thier internet advertisment, they sound so reassuring when you first call and follow up is almost immediate, they will tell you lies to get you to come, once your in that chair your at their mercy.

I’m grieving the love of my life and I didn’t make a wise decision. Who has the money to pay air fare and hotel twice, sure they guarantee the work 10 years., just do the work properly in the first place, Want more info from a verified patient, feel free to call 727-365-****.

No.... I left with infections and had to have everything removed.

You get what you pay for. There is not a true dentist there.

No oral surgeon. If in Cancun, visit see for yourself.

I had serious work done 2 years ago. Canadian prices without guarantee estimated at $12,000, there guaranteed work , transportation daily for10 days work, including medication and the proper billing in my favour for insurance claim for $2,000.

Think again.

Previously I had lived in Mexico for 25 years. Don't listen to comments made from people who criticize everything without knowing anything but their immediate environment.

plus the process is quite different when in a foreign country..... silly you

you are a true idiot, had work do there and after almost dying from infection, everything had to be removed, bone graphs and start everything over. I would have gladly paid triple in the first if I had known what I do now.

NO.2 insurance will NOT pay because it is a foreign country, and these *** don't know the first thing about filling out the claim form. I'll be more than happy to upload pictures and proof of everything I am saying.

I've never enjoyed the dentist so much !!!

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Ocean Dental Cancun - I've never enjoyed the dentist so much !!!

I generally have decent teeth , few more fillings than I should have when I was young but .... Lately I have had lots of issues with cleaning at my Canadian dentist .the scraping and unintentionally slip of sharp tools into my gums and having to heal up to come back to finish.

General discomfort in chair and being exhausted after getting home seemed to be run of mill program !! So ,I had an absethed tooth, they couldnt see problem , later in year same tooth/problem . They said lets pull it and do an implant 4500$ no insurance. I went home to think ,remembered friends dentist experience in Mexico so I started research .

A friend also mentioned he needed work that was $40000 in Canada ,so from the first phone call to Cancun Dental Specialists to flying home was no less than a life changing event . They do the best with your photos you send before you leave to quote you then do x-rays and reconsult when you arrive. I find out that my canadian dentist never did root canal right year ago and hence the abseth ,so no charge for xrays and no implants ! just redo the root canal and crown...way less and done!!

Oh and a water jet cleaning....HEAVEN!! And needle or freezing seems way less pain ,your ready for nite on the town afterwards. Hard to believe!

Very honest and caring, concered people, even after your home they contact you ,more than once ,making sure you are ok . Dr Irma is an amazing Canadian and U.S.

trained dentist. Shes like the mother hen ,checking on every patient in all chairs,is involved in all consultations and even did my crown herself !! They run a productive efficient business ....but not once ,do they not take time to explain or consult or do mutiple in- chair x-rays....beautiful..... they bring in sometimes 4 people to consult as different dentist specialize there .

There is a very nice pharmacy next door ,and the drivers are all professional picking up and taking you to your hotel or airport. Ive been on two trips for root and crowns .....couldnt be happier ! My friend ended up w extensive work but loved experience for 10% of canadian cost. So I recommended another friend w bad teeth ...same experiance broken teeth extraction, bone graphing and ready for implants on next trip....

in 3 hours ,ate soft supper that nite and 2 days on painkillers The place is full of geneally happy Canadians and Americans ,lots of great people to visit with, some simple fixes but some have not EVER looked after their teeth and or been to a dentist in 10 years(my buddys )....then they expect no pain in the most heavily nerved part of the body.

Not much worse than tooth pain!!

You will enjoy the beaches and sun and the most friendly technological advanced dentists in Cancun ...I highly recommend giving them a call, maybe before your smile falls apart....stop for cleaning and say hi. No regrets !!!

Great Experience! Highly Recommend!

I can not say in words how AMAZING of an experience I had. I needed a lot of work.

2 root canals, 6 crowns with some posts, and 2 apicoectomies (dental surgeries). I have never had an apicoctomy and was so scared, i started crying in the chair. The surgeon was so nice, so gentle as was her associate. Everything about this place is amazing, from the cost savings to the US, the top rate equipment, they taxi you to/from airport and your hotel (huge savings) and there are no BS charges.

If something comes up after your treatment plan is decided the financial planner comes in, goes over the cost, and its done. There is no waiting for appointments because they have all the specialists on site. AND they have a lab that works 24 hours a day making the crowns etc.

Honestly, I am considering flying here 1x per year for my routine checkup. Much of the work I needed was because things were missed in my checkups in the US (I have moved a few times so have seen various dentists).

In the US the cost is around $250 and they always find something they need to fix, which is waiting 6 weeks and then another $200. For $250 I can fly here, pay $60 and have a checkup and a quick vacay.

Also if you are lucky enough to have insurance they can work with you on that as well. Honestly stop reading reviews and book, you will not be disappointed!

My mom was told that in a ten-day time frame, everything would be completed for 8000 dollars by Irma, the head honcho.Instead, she stayed for two months, receiving something that she did not want, paid over 12000dollars and has been in terrible pain, not being able to eat or sleep for over two months. They also kept her eights abutments which she paid for.She was originally told that there is a five year guarantee, but now after talking, crying and pleading with them, they deny everything and say she will have to pay again full-time.Is this a good clinic? That bad review is BS!!! I was just there on Sept 5th and had one of the best experiences at the dentist, if there is such a thing.

4 extractions/3 root canal and 6 zirconia crowns and it was almost painless, both physical and moneywise. Going back for the rest of the work next April, 5 implants and 11 more crowns, to be done in two more trips. Total cost is less than 1/3rd of what my dentist wanted in Florida. They pay more attention to the patient than any dentist I have had in the states, Dr.

Irma is always checking to make sure all work is done perfectly. Great experience !!!

Irma Gavaldon's Meat Market Dental Clinic

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

Maybe Irma Gavaldon's meat market dental clinic can fix one tooth properly. Last year I had a full mouth restoration done there and am so sorry.

Completely ruined my teeth. The bite is so bad I've got osteomyelitis from bite pressures and lost a tooth already. Some of the teeth were put in backwards. And the crown margins are all so poorly fit no US dentist who has seen them can believe it.

I'm in pain all the time although I've tried to have doctors adjust the teeth they hesitate to do it because they feel the teeth should be redone. Also the bottom teeth color doesn't match the top teeth, not even in front.

The looks of the teeth is the least of my worries now though. I am so so sorry I trusted Irma Gavaldon.

Worries

I dont doubt what you say is true I question if most of the people there are fully trained and licensed There is an 18 year blonde that runs around there like she is at the beach -it concerns me that hygiene is not in the for front. The gloves they wear are on their hands everywhere they go -so how sterile are they-NOT and masks are not always on the people in the room.

I have picture of what looks like rusty dental tools .

And on top of that its the noisiest most irritating damn (professional) office I have ever been in. The old saying you get what you pay for I only hope my teeth stay in!
